It means a lot to be able to teach them while letting them have fun and explore the garden using all their senses. I was especially surprised to see how willing most students were to eat the produce and try new things, and they aren't afraid to get their hands dirty.”

"The best part was the kids. Looking back, I had so many great and funny moments in the garden. They all have different personalities and they react to the garden differently. I always encouraged them to get out of their comfort zone. One of my favorite moments was when one of my second graders got the courage to hold a worm!! She was so excited she told her teacher! It was also so funny seeing their faces when they tried a new food in the garden. The kids though the chives were spicy and seeing their faces were so funny. It's bittersweet that garden classes are over. I'll miss my students. Go Cougars!"

"The best part of teaching this year has been watching how excited the students are to actually get their hands dirty and really help in the garden, even when they aren't in garden class. Anytime we're in the garden working, students at recess will come up and ask to help; they absolutely light up if you say yes! It demonstrates how important this program is and we can see the effects in real time. This is especially true for the students that are sent away for misbehaving. It's been a joy to watch them rechannel their energy into something productive!"

"The best part about teaching this year has been seeing how excited the students get about the garden. Having students come out to the garden at Dolores during their recess time to either help with garden work, to explore the fascinating bugs that are emerging, or even to just have a chat has been a wonderful experience. Even as their teachers are calling them in, they try to get one last watering can on the garden bed they were watering or one last weed to pull out of the ground. These students are dedicated and it's been great seeing that throughout the year."
